What is a gay resort ?

What facilities are on the property?

You can relax in the largest guesthouse pool on the island, heated in the winter. The poolside Cafe and Bar serves drinks, meals and snacks all day and all night, every day. There’s plenty of deck space around the pool for sunbathing, a second sundeck overlooking the pool with a misting system to ensure cool comfort in any weather. Clothing is optional anywhere on the property except the gym. You can warm up in our two Jacuzzis, sauna and steam room, or make a little heat of your own in the 24 hour a day erotic video lounge. Our gym makes it easy to keep up your routine while you are with us.

Where is Island House located?

We are on the gay “Guesthouse Row” in Old Town, at the end of Fleming Street. This is six blocks from Duval Street, or about a twelve minute walk at an easy pace. Specifically, we are at the corner of White and Fleming. Map and driving directions.

What should I bring along?

Key West is a casual town and casual dress is perfectly acceptable at all our restaurants and bars, even the really exceptional ones. We provide pool towels, sarongs and rubber sandals and we also sell sun tan lotions, sarongs, sandals and T-shirts. In winter, although it is warm by day, we do suggest you bring a light sweater or jacket, as the temperature in the evening can be in the 60s. If you are interested in snorkelling or diving, all of the boats provide the appropriate equipment.

Is there Internet access?

Yes, we have high speed Internet access for guests in the lobby, as well as a computer and printer setup so you can “do some work” while you are with us. If you bring a laptop, you can access our complimentary Wi-Fi network.

 

What’s Happy Hour?

From 5.30 until 7.00 daily we offer complimentary soft drinks, juice, domestic beers, house wines, champagne and well drinks to hotel guests. This is our way of saying thanks to you for staying with us, and is also a good way to meet other hotel guests.

What about smoking?

Because our buildings are wooden, historic, and lack sprinkler systems, our insurance company requires us to prohibit smoking in all indoor areas of the hotel, including guest rooms. Smoking is allowed everywhere outdoors including the decks, balconies, around the pool, and the Cafe. Several of our rooms have seating areas on a covered deck or balcony directly in front of the room. This is a pleasant place to relax and smoke. You can inquire about the availability of of one of these rooms when you make reservations.

I’m arriving early - can I check into my room when I arrive?

We always do our best to accommodate early arrivals. We have a 24 hour front desk, so there is always someone to greet you when you arrive. If your room is ready, you may certainly check in when you arrive, assuming it is the date of your reservation. (Our day starts at 8.00am) If your room is not ready, we can store your luggage and you are welcome to enjoy the facilities while we prepare your room.

I am arriving late - will I be able to check in?

Yes! we have a 24 hour front desk to handle the latest of arrivals.

What is there to do in Key West? What about gay bars?

We could spend a lot of time on this topic! Key West has a lot to offer. Snorkeling, sailing, biplane rides, tours and museums of all sorts and of course a terrific night life! As well as a host of excellent restaurants there are a number of hot gay Bars to choose from. Bourbon Street, Aqua, KWest Men, The 801, Saloon1, and La-Te-Da are all great gay Bars that stay open until 4am. These bars offer among them a video bar, a dance bar, drag shows, a leather-levi bar, a cabaret, and piano bar. Bourbon Street and KWest Men now have totally nude dancers every night. Key West is possibly the most gay-friendly town you will find in the US!

What about beaches? How close are they to Island House?

There are several public beaches within an easy 10 minute bike ride, or a quick cab trip from Island House. There is also a gay nude beach on Boca Chica Key, about 10 miles from Key West.

What time is check-out?

Check out is at 11.00am. If you are leaving later we can store your luggage and you’re welcome to enjoy the facilities until it’s time to leave . If someone is not checking in, it is also possible to rent your room until 6.00pm for a half day charge.

Is Island House clothing optional?

Yes! You can disrobe as soon as you enter the front door. The exception is the gym where State Law requires shoes and shorts.
